Control
The first draft of this poem probably occurred in the early 1980s. I found it in an old notebook I that I had kept all these years. Edited to be less about teenage angst and more about any desire or behavior that a person wishes they weren't controlled by.

Silent yearning
never to be realized
never to be talked about, but kept
quiet
Human pleasures
are able to control,
manipulate and deceive
their owner
Much like guilt which appears after the act
Pleasures move a person
and then leaves them feeling
disoriented
This thought, so gigantic
will control me,
although I wish no control
to be.
